Since 2009, KALGen has been a pioneering molecular diagnostic and pharmacogenomic laboratory in Indonesia. As part of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, the Panca Sradha values ​​serve as the foundation for KALGen in providing high-quality healthcare services and driving the transformation of diagnostic innovation in Indonesia.

In 2016, KALGen strengthened its position as a national primary reference clinical laboratory through the establishment of a joint venture between Kalbe Farma, Health Science Research Institute, Inc. (HSRI) or Hoken Kagaku Kenkyujo (HKK), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation. As the first joint venture between Indonesia and Japan in the clinical laboratory sector, this strategic collaboration strengthens KALGen's capabilities in delivering world-class technology, quality standards, and innovation.

KALGen's commitment to innovation and quality standards is reflected in various key achievements. Since 2012, KALGen has provided affordable HPV Genotyping tests for the Indonesian people. KALGen then became a pioneer in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)-based precision diagnostics for BRCA1/2 gene mutations in 2018 and a lung cancer panel in 2019. In 2020, KALGen became the first private laboratory in Indonesia ready to support the COVID-19 pandemic response by providing RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 tests with BSL2+ facilities, as well as being the first anatomical pathology laboratory in Indonesia to achieve KALK and KAK ISO 15189 accreditation. In 2023-2025, KALGen continues to expand its comprehensive precision oncology portfolio, Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) technology-based cancer therapy monitoring, and genomic-based preventive wellness based on polygenic risk scores (PRS) developed for the Indonesian and Asian populations.

Beyond healthcare innovation, KALGen is also committed to supporting the development of science and healthcare worker competency through KALGen Academia, an integrated educational platform launched in 2022. Through various scientific activities including seminars, workshops, discussion forums, and research and publication collaborations, KALGen contributes to the development of the medical diagnostic ecosystem in Indonesia. To expand access to quality diagnostic services, KALGen Innolab opened its first anatomical pathology laboratory branch in Surabaya in 2023 and a clinical pathology laboratory branch in Bandung in 2026.

Entering the era of precision medicine, KALGen is committed to delivering sustainable diagnostic innovation and expanding access to precision health in Indonesia. To realize this vision, KALGen is building an Integrated Precision Health Ecosystem supported by genomics and bioinformatics capabilities, robust data governance and security, and a multidisciplinary advisory board comprised of national and international experts in genomics and medicine.
