Function
This test is used to detect Toxoplasma in patient samples. Toxoplasma is an intracellular parasite and an opportunistic pathogen. This infection can cause life-threatening encephalitis in immunosuppressed patients, AIDS patients, and transplant patients. Infection in pregnant women can also cause fatal infections in the fetus, and can result in fetal death or mental disorders in the baby.
