CK (CPK)
Function
This test detects levels of CPK (Creatine Phosphokinase) in the blood. CPK is a type of enzyme that is most commonly found in the heart, brain, and skeletal muscle. When a muscle is irritated, CPK is released into the bloodstream. High levels of CPK in the blood can indicate a disorder in the muscles, including the heart and brain muscles. This test is usually helpful in making the diagnosis of a heart attack.
