Cryptococcus neoformans, Indian Ink

This test uses the Indian ink staining method to determine the presence of the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans in patient samples. Cryptococcus neoformans is a fungus that causes a lung infection that can spread to the brain and cause cryptococcal meningitis. In general, this infection occurs in people who have a weak immune system, especially those who have HIV/AIDS.
