CTX is a biochemical marker of bone metabolism used to evaluate and provide therapy in patients with metabolic bone diseases, such as osteoporosis. This test is also used for monitoring anti-resorptive therapy (such as bisphosphonates and hormone replacement therapy) in postmenopausal women receiving osteoporosis therapy and in patients with osteopenia.
