ADA (Adenosin Deaminase)
Function
ADA (adenosine deaminase) is a type of enzyme that functions to eliminate toxic left-over molecules from DNA breakdown. Increased levels of ADA in serum or lung fluid can be a sign of infection with the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). On the other hand, low ADA levels may indicate ADA deficiency disease. ADA deficiency can cause a person's immune system to weaken, making them more susceptible to infection with germs, viruses, and fungi.
