JAKARTA, 08 June 2023 - Congenital diseases also known as congenital diseases are abnormal conditions from birth due to disorders that occur during fetal development, both due to genetic and non-genetic factors. According to WHO data, congenital abnormalities occur in 59.3 out of every 1000 live births and are the fourth most common cause of death in children under 5 years (11.1%). To confirm a diagnosis of a congenital disease caused by chromosomal abnormalities, It is necessary to undergo cytogenetic examinations to provide support for the examinations.

The cytogenetic examination is a chromosome examination to detect chromosomal abnormalities that can cause abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, Edward's Syndrome, Patau Syndrome, and other chromosomal abnormalities.

It is important to carry out this examination for every baby who is suspected of having a chromosomal abnormality so that they can receive appropriate medical treatment according to their condition. The examination is carried out with a blood sample which is then processed and examined with a microscope in the laboratory.
